PRIMARY SUPPORT PROGRAMMES
Football Development Schools have been working close to schools over a number of years developing an enjoyable and comprehensive schools football programme. During this time we have nurtured relationships with schools, which means we are the first people schools come to in helping them develop children’s footballing education.
Moving with the times FDS have a forward thinking approach to school football developing new programmes to embrace the game and keep children interested in the sport. Below is a selection of opportunities open to schools.
AFTER SCHOOL FOOTBALL
The most popular way FDS deliver football sessions in schools is by delivering the After School football club. These clubs last 6 to 10 weeks working on different skills each week. FDS incorporate an all-inclusive attitude to these sessions working on a different skill each week. The games developed for the after school programme are based on children having as many touches of the ball as possible. Following these courses the coaches will come into an assembly and hand out certificates and prizes to the children.
LUNCH TIME FOOTBALL
These sessions work on the same premise as the after school club, but are flexible to fit around the children’s lunch time. The sessions can be anything from 30 minutes to 50 minutes in length.
P.E. LESSONS
FDS provide coaches to deliver P.E lessons within primary schools. We provide a Multi-Skill and Multi-Sport approach delivering a broad, balanced and challenging curricullum.
BREAKFAST CLUBS
These are a great way to start the school day. We deliver mentally and physically challenging activities as well as providing fruit to help activate the children for the day ahead. Many schools use these to help prepare children for SATS, but why not prepare them this way every day!
WINTER FOOTBALL
Over the winter months as the nights draw in and the weather becomes less conducive to out door activities. Football Development Schools (FDS) have developed a couple of initiatives to embrace the indoor nature of after school clubs during this period.
FOOTBALL FITNESS
Working to music, football fitness is designed to help boys and girls develop their individual skills, with emphasis placed on developing their coordination and speed).
Syllabus includes
* Ladders work (developing control and speed)
* Dynamic stretches (developing coordination and rhythm)
* Brazilian skills (developing confidence with the football)
* Team games developed to incorporate all the above while enhancing the opportunities to work together as a group.
FUTSAL
The South American version of the five a side game has grown in popularity worldwide with the English FA developing a structure to allow the game to develop in the country. The game has a number of subtle differences to it that encourages players to move the ball quickly and develop their skills.
The most obvious difference from traditional 5a side football is that in futsal the ball is heavier which means it does not bounce; this requires the need for the ball to be mastered in moving it and keeping it under control.
Futsal is played on a court the size of a netball and basketball court. This means players are in a more confined space, which requires the players to demonstrate greater skill with the ball. Speed and imagination is key to being successful within the games.
Finally weather the game is inside or outside the game does not allow players to use the wall that means the players must rely more on individual skill rather than deflecting the ball into a different area of the court.
The Annual Primary Futsal Competition is in its second year following the success of the inaugural tournament.
