JUNE: DEVELOPMENT CENTRE MATCHES

While the country embarks on another Wimbledon full of hope for the British contingent of tennis players, FDS coaches have been using the format of the game to develop the skills of the Development Centre players. 'Football Tennis' helps to develop a number of areas within the young players. The game needs the players to be comfortable controlling the ball with a number of areas of their bodies, while working on the weight of lobbed pass the players have to make.

As the game becomes more competitive the players have to develop different tactics to beat their opponent, trying to find weaknesses in their opponents' game to be successful. It is no surprise that the players who do their homework well and progress in this field are usually the successful players within the game of 'Football Tennis'. As with all elite sports people this is due to the players having small weaknesses in their game, which make them hard to play against.

On the note of success, well done to the boys at Bedford Development Centre. The quality and development shown by each individual was very impressive. Hopefully due to the fact that the game is enjoyable the boys will continue to play the game with friends during their spare time, as the benefits to a players touch and skill are excellent.
