NOVEMBER: UNDER 9'S MATCH DAY

The Under nines turned out in numbers for their matches at a sunny Grendon Hall. An age group with strength in-depth from the Centre of Excellence through to the Development Centre's, the boys again proved that having trained with FDS for a number of years in some cases can produce technically gifted players.

Again the morning was dedicated to finding out more about the players individually, and it was soon evident which players who could take on basic tactical information, and those who can perform in a team. What was interesting to the coaches was seeing which individuals could play in a team full of technically good players and those who found it hard to adjust to not being the main man in their team.

The biggest difference would again come in the responsibility the players could take. At the age of nine there is no reason why the players cannot get changed by themselves, put their boots on by themselves and take on information from the coach by themselves. It was no coincidence that the boys who understand the importance of taking on all forms of responsibility often flourish within the elite side of sport, as ultimately it will be them who make it, not their parents, coaches etc. The support they get from parents and coaches is important but ultimately it is them to choose their own route.

FDS would like to thank the players for their patience at the start of the day.
