MARCH: YEAR 3 & 4 FUTSAL TOURNAMENT REVIEW
12 teams came to the KLV Arena hoping for futsal glory, the honour of which went to Hawthorn Primary School of Kettering. In a strong tournament the staff of FDS were pleasantly surprised by the ability on show during the afternoon and would like to commend all the teams for their enthusiasm and sportsmanship during the competition, the children, teachers and parents were a credit to their schools. It was also pleasing to welcome back the schools who participated in the Year 5&6 tournament and we are now planning the now 2nd annual futsal tournaments for the next school year.
The 1st round of games produced a mixed bag of groups with two keenly contested groups producing points on the board for all the participating teams. Group 1 would see Havelock A finishing on 7 points edge out Park Juniors (6pts) by a single point to progress to the winners group in the second round. Hall Meadow A on a respectable 4 points produced a number of good performances, with Little Harrowden B finding the going tough during the first group stage.
Group 2 Was a very tight group, with few goals to speak of from the competing teams. Hawthorns mean defence meant that their six goals would produce the maximum points available from the group with Little Harrowden and Sherrier both finishing on 4 points following their 0-0 draw. Redwell B's 4-1 defeat at the hands of Little Harrowden was the highest scoring game of this group and enabled Little Harrowden A to pick up second spot.
Group 3 was the most clear cut group with Redwell A seeing off the competition to finish on maximum points. Little Bowden provided stiff competition however their game vrs the group winners meant they would have to settle for 2nd place, however with a favourable goal difference they would take their seat within the top table for the 2nd round. Havelocks B's win vrs Hall Meadow B would mean they would finish 3rd and Hall Meadows young side would take up the last spot within the group.
A highly charged 2nd round winners group saw Hawthorn finish eventual champions with a 1-0 victory against Redwell A in the final match. Had the Wellingborough team held onto a 0-0 draw that would have left 3 teams on 5 points with the tournament being decided on goal difference. From Hawthorns last match victory Little Bowdens 5 points earned them 2nd place and Redwell A slipped to 3rd on 4 points. With Havelocks goal scoring ability drying up they would finish 4th meaning Richard Jacques could not put his name to a historical double Futsal triumph.
Little Harrowden A and Park Juniors would be the main contenders in Group 2 with the final match dictating who would eventually win the group. Hall Meadow A would claim a solitary victory against Sherrier helping them to 3rd place with the Lutterworth team running out of gas following their tough 1st round matches.
In Group 3 Havelock B and Redwell A would battle it out for group dominance with both teams finishing the group on equal points.
FDS hope all the players and staff enjoyed their time with us at the tournament, and we hope they will take part in the 2nd annual futsal tournament's to be staged during the next school year.
