NOVEMBER: FUTSAL TOURNAMENT DAY ONE - THE FIRST GROUP STAGE

The first ever Inter-School Futsal Tournament was well received, with pleased looks on every bodies faces come the end of the first days play. The eventual winners were Havelock school who adapted superbly to the game and impressed everybody with their skill, technique and speed.

The spirit of the tournament was based around all the teams getting lots of playing time, and with there being two sets of group games, it meant each and every team would play six games whether they were among the front runners or in the chasing pack. The 1st set of groups matches would soon show to everybody, who would be the contenders for the Futsal crown, although as with all tournaments the competition did through up a number of surprises.

Group One

The pace setters from group one would be eventual winners Havelock, as they set about the task in hand with incredible efficiency scoring freely, while rarely getting caught out defensively. Redwell's early form made the group come down to the final game with Havelock turning on a powerful performance to see off their nearest challengers. Park Juniors 1 and Little Harrowden 2 improved their performances each game with Park Juniors edging out Little Harrowden to finish the group in third position.

1: Havelock Juniors 9pts
2: Redwell Juniors 6pts
3: Park Juniors 1 3pts
4: Little Harrowden 2 0pt

Group Two

This group became the most unpredictable with a number of different footballing styles on show and a couple of upsets, making this group the closest contest. The first set of matches saw wins for both Little Harrowden and Sherrier, which looked to suggest that these two sides would provide the cream from group two. The 2nd matches provided the shock of the round, with a rejuvenated Hall Meadow 1 defending stoutly to then hit Little Harrowden 1 with two knock out punches late on, a result for team work against the skill and speed of Little Harrowden. Sherrier picked up top spot in the group with Little Harrowden falling foul to another smash and grab win leaving them in third. Windmill 2 produced competitive performances without being able to find the scoring touch, they would provide better competition later in the day.

1: Sherrier Primary 9pts
2: Hall Meadow 1 6pts
3: Little Harrowden 1 3pts
4: Windmill 2 0pt

Group 3

This group became infamous for the lack of goals that would be on show. All the matches were tight affairs with the technical ability of Little Bowden shinning through as they made the running within the group. Windmill 1's late arrival affected their goalscorers as they played out a goaless draw with Park Juniors 2 in their first match. That draw would decide the second place team with Windmill snatching second by one point from Hall Meadow 2. Park Juniors found the going a little tough with a number of injuries hampering any progress. Little Bowden took the honours within the group and progressed though to the winners group.

1: Little Bowden 9pts
2: Windmill 1 4pts
3: Hall Meadow 3pts
4: Park Juniors 2 1pt
