NEWS - JANUARY: DEVELOPMENT CENTRE FUTSAL TOURNAMENT
The first Development Centre Event of 2009 kicked off in great style at Kettering Leisure Village this Sunday just gone. This Arena is outstanding for our Futsal competitions and will be used more and more in the coming months. Having seen the qualities on display on Sunday it is baffling that Futsal and indoor games and tournaments are not the norm at this time of year for young players as they are in the rest of Europe.
We seperated the boys into 2 sections for this tournament, Year 1, 2 and 3 together in the younger section and Year 4, 5 and 6 together in older section. The games were played at a really quick tempo with lots of imagination, quality on the ball, skill, positive attacking, last ditch clearances and tremndous work rate to protect the goal. What more could you want from players of any age! This is why we love Futsal so much.
The tournament was competitive throughout with medals for the winning team, which contrary to traditional football tournaments caused no reduction in the skill on display. In the end Holland ran out convincing winners in the older section, whilst Argentina were worthy winners in the younger group.
All players performed well on the day, with many boys knocking on the Academy door. We are already looking forward to the next tournament which will be before Easter.
